SmartSea

The story behind the project

SmartSea is artificial intelligence for the blue economy, our Blue Amazon. Coastal towns that live on tourism receive crowds whose consumption patterns and usage profiles nobody maps. The idea is to use cameras as a digital eye to identify those patterns, such as brands, vehicles, clothing and the materials of the items consumed, and to generate intelligence for the circular economy.

The solution works in four steps: the camera captures the environment, edge computing processes the data efficiently, contextual classification organizes the information and the cloud delivers the result to two audiences. Local businesses, on the front line and helping keep waste out of the sea, and city hall, which gains data to hold large companies accountable for the materials consumed in the region.

Validation was planned for Morro de São Paulo, an organized ecosystem that works as a living lab, with the potential to scale along the entire Brazilian coast. The blue economy moves US$ 3.6 trillion worldwide, half of it tied to tourism, and only 7.2% of it is aligned with the circular economy. I wrote the proposal, approved in the Centelha program, and gave the pitch that earned recognition at the Smart Gov ANCITI pitch battle in 2026.
