The story behind the project

WRP is a SaaS solution for analyzing anemometric data, improving wind measurement campaigns and assessing the feasibility of new wind farms. The tool collects, processes and analyzes wind data and shows how the wind behaves in areas of interest, including speed, direction and variation over time.

Besides helping choose the best sites for turbines, WRP works as a kind of insurance for the measurement campaign: smart alerts and integrated communication bring analysts and field maintenance teams together, with the history of both.

The opportunity came from a consulting job for EPE, Brazil’s Energy Research Office. Before a wind farm gets off the ground, there are about three years of wind measurements, with inconsistent data, lots of manual spreadsheet work and the risk of losing information. The MVP tackles all three: campaign management without spreadsheets, data analysis and risk investigation, with a screen that shows the analyst the day’s critical points right away.

I coordinated the project team, which brought together development, data and energy specialists. Development was funded by FAPESB’s Tecnova II and hosted at Parque Tecnológico da Bahia; the project was accelerated by SENAI CIMATEC in Anprotec’s Ideiaz program and earned the semifinalist trophy at EnergINN, an MIT program.
